Information on Enterprise Program at MTU
Dear Parents,
Your son or daughter has expressed an in engineering during a recent survey in their science class. Michigan Technological University has offered to our students an opportunity to come to their campus and learn about engineering. They will see the Enterprise Expo) where all of Michigan Tech’s Enterprise Teams will have exhibits set up and well senior engineer design projects. They will see the best of what undergraduate engineering students do.
Enterprise teams are student-driven, multidisciplinary teams that work like companies whether the deliverable is an innovative product, a pioneering solution, or a much-needed service. The hallmark of the Enterprise Program is the experiential training it provides to students.
Many teams design, manufacture, and test their own prototypes—an end-to-end project development experience. Some teams prepare designs for national competitions, and some projects take teams abroad. The International Business Ventures designed an infant heart annunciator for use in developing countries—and had the opportunity to test the lifesaving device on infants in Ghana.
Teams collaborate with clients from industry, communities and government organizations, and work closely with a faculty advisor. You could work with organizations like 3M, General Motors, Kimberly-Clark, and the Department of Energy, among others
Students in the Aerospace Enterprise Team that several Kingsford students have been a part of over the are now in the process of build a satellite for the Air Force that will be flown into space this year. Enterprise teams are a team of students that operates like a company to solve real world problems.
Students will also be taken to see the work areas of some of the enterprise teams and meet with some of the teams on campus. This will be followed by a tour of campus. This is a wonderful chance for your child to see if they might be interested in an engineering career, to see what it is like to get an education in engineering and to see the types of things engineering students at MTU do. Michigan Technological University will be providing lunch.
We will also be touring campus as a part of this visit they may experience during the tour of campus. Bill Bertoldi, and Joe Kriegl of the science department.
This is a school event and all school polices are in effect for the trip. If you should have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. The trip is on Thursday October 18th. We will be leaving at 5:30 AM, students will meet in front of the principal’s office and return for home around 3:00 CST. It is important that students are on time to leave for the trip as we must be on campus and ready to go by 8:00 CST.
The trips schedule, information on the expo and the enterprise teams we will be seeing can be found at can be found at
